Rockingham East Coast Nationals in Review

Hot!!!!!. That's the one word that would most accurately describe everything about 2011 Imdra East Coast Nationals at Rockingham Drag way. You want to know track conditions? Inquiring about the racing action?. Want to know what it feels like in the shade? Hot , hot, and oh yeah hot. My friend, welcome to rc drag racing at one of its finest moments. From the Green Leafe Inn to nightly visits to Golden Corral, Rockingham Drag way and the surroundings towns have provided great memories and traditions of which have helped to make this event a cant miss. Racers competed in 10 classes for Imdra national titles and Imdra national survival series points. This year saw the resurgence of nitro pro stock and quarter scale and what a show these guys gave. Nitro pro stock recently had a restructuring which returned it to its roots and the racers returned as well. Of Note, Brandon Preston of Atlanta TQd and put everyone on notice that Team Walbern, GP Mods, and 2 speed transmissions are still a force to reckon with. Brandon ran a best e.t. of 1.77 seconds and took residence in the .8 island throughout practice and most of the event. Once the smoke cleared it was Frank Martorelli Sr. and Wayne Prince in the finals where Frank took the win running 1.91 @ 68.1 mph and added to a long list of nitro pro stock wins. As for quarter scale, Mr. Consistent Hank Cork remained king taking the win, but some new players have given notice that the crown is not safe. Floyd Vick, Miguel Perez, Kurt Gawne, Ross West, and more are all gunning for the throne. Rey Perez of Lynwood Dragway reset the e.t record running a 2.64 second e.t New records have been set in electric pro stock, nitro funny car, quarter scale, and extreme. Stay tuned to www.imdra.com to follow the points race, view the forum, and stay up to date on the national event scene. In recent times the technology offered in rc drag racing has pushed elapsed times and speeds into areas many have not even believed possible. The poster child for this advancedment is of course Extreme where Frank Mortarelli Jr.piloting his JC drag works dragster has reset the e.t. record to a mind blowing 1.12 seconds. He also managed to tickle the sensors tallying speeds greater than 120 mph. As of now there does not appear to be any sign that records wont continue to fall. If you wish to witness this live, I suggest you make your plans now to attend Imdras next national event at lynwood drag way.
