Rainman - your car will be the subject of protest as there must be some sort of aerodynamical advantage in that cover of yours.........

AC it's not just a 10 cent piece of lexan for me.
My DD rail is set up totaly differant from Marks, Floyds. It's going to cost me a little more to add that 10 cent piece of lexan. I will have to make new motor mounts, new brake linkage, throttle linkage which might run 20-30 bucks when it's all said and done.
Just don't know if I want to put anymore money into the DD rail. May go back to the old belt drive.

Jim [Rainman]

I love your design, to cover what some would call a tail shaft. And your sense of humour. To me it is just a distorted pinion with only 2 teeth on it. :D Yours is a shaft drive in name only because of the angle it meets the rear housing. Someone forgot to put the shaft in your car

Your cover has been poorly designed like some other things, :dzd: have you thought how your back wheels are going to contact the ground to give you traction? :D

I would like to contact you directly and ask you some questions; I have your email address, as I am on Nic C's mailing list also. If ok just say and I will contact you.

:rlz: It aint fair!!!! My Body not only covers the shaft but EVERYTHING that sits under it!!! And to think that I still have to run a .030 cover under a .030 cover aint fair. If that is the rule then I say to make it fair by making dragsters run a piece that is made of 1/2 inch thick cast iron or stainless steel ( or atleast .060 lexan ) running the full lenght of the shaft, it must also be rolled to form a tube as to make it cover the shaft completly, it also must be secured to the chassis via (4) 3/4 inch grade 8 nuts and bolts. To insure that the nuts never loosen, ( we can't have any big ole nuts and bolts flying at people ) after torqued to a weight of 250 ft.lbs. they must be welded in place. Please note that I'm not picking on the dragster guys I'm just trying to make them as safe as my car with a little overkill to even the playing feild a bit. (lets see how fast you go NOW!!!) :rlz:

geeze, pat. i can't believe you'd consider pulling out of IMDRA over something as insignificant as a 0.030" piece of Lexan and a couple of screws............ let's not let IMDRA be judged as pack of whiners unable to comply with a simple safety requirement.
Never said that I was considering pulling out, AC..... simply don't know yet what classes I'll run and to what extent I'll be able to travel next year. Odds are that I wont be racing with the DD chassis and it's not because of the plastic cover, rather that my current interests lie in another direction. As for whiners, drag racers are and have been the biggest pack of whiners in RC since I started racing in the late '80's.... and I can be one of the best when the rules warrant a little scrutiny.

The manner in which this rule was presented, combined with the lack of justification and a reasonable response from the BOD, is a source of major amusement to myself and many others. Many of us old timers have been through this crap long ago.....IMDRA is beginning to remind me of the IEDA when Chris Fine ran the show.... :rlp:
